Diphenyl ether derivatives of the formula ##STR1## where R.sup.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.3 and n have the meanings stated in the description, processes for their preparation, herbicides which contain these compounds as active ingredients, and a method of controlling undesirable plant growth by means of the novel compounds.
