The invention relates to a digital phase locked loop (PLL)12for demodulating an intermediate frequency signal. The digital phase locked loop12comprises two coordinate rotation digital computers24and30in its phase detector. The robustness the PLL12can be improved by means of a gain control circuit27, a sign detector20, a carrier monitoring circuit28and an adjustable loop filter32.
