ABSTRACT:
A device for purifying the exhaust gas of an internal combustion engine, which includes separate devices for purifying the particulates in the exhaust gas and a device for purifying NOxin the exhaust gas located integrally or separately in the exhaust system, is provided. At least two reducing material supply devices for supplying the reducing material to the device for purifying the particulates and the device for purifying NOxare arranged in the exhaust system. When the device for purifying the particulates or the device for purifying NOxrequires a small amount of reducing material, one of the two reducing material supply devices supplies the required amount of reducing material to the exhaust system. When the device for purifying the particulates or the device for purifying NOxrequires a large amount of reducing material, both of the two reducing material supply devices supply the required amount of reducing material to the exhaust system.
