ABSTRACT:
A device for detecting and/or sweeping electrically controlled mines, which evice will provide an indication of the presence of a control cable connected to the mine, and will serve as a countermeasure for such mines, by selectively detonating same after cutting of its control line after the sweeping vessel is beyond the mine's effective range. The circuitry of the device includes a high D.C. voltage source connected with a capacitor so as to charge the capacitor through a protective current limiting resistor, whereby the voltage is caused to discharge through the control cable so as to indicate the presence of the mine. An insulated blade type grapple knife system, to prevent inadvertent shorting of the detonating circuit, is used in conjunction with a sensitivity adjustable magnetometer and a switch to provide the desired safety range to permit the cutter to sever the mine's control cable without endangering the tow vessel or its personnel.
