ABSTRACT:
A hitch assembly for connecting a front end21of a low-loader trailer to a tow vehicle10is disclosed. The hitch assembly includes: a first mount22located at the front end21of the trailer; a second mount25longitudinally spaced towards the rear end of the trailer from the first mount21;a gooseneck frame40having a front end and a rear end, the front end connectable to the tow vehicle10;a latch connectable50to the front end21of the trailer by engagement with the first and second mounts22and25,the latch50pivotally connected to the rear end of the gooseneck frame40;and a means for rotating the latch50with respect to the gooseneck frame40.The assembly is such that in use, the front end of the trailer21is liftable by the action of a force couple imparted entirely through the latch50to the first and second mounts22and25.The pivotal connection between the latch and the gooseneck frame is positioned on the gooseneck such that, in use, rotation of the latch50to lift the front end21of the trailer, moves the trailer forwards with respect to the rear end of the gooseneck.
