ABSTRACT:
Halogenated organic species, e.g., chlorinated or brominated dioxins or dibenzofurans, PCBs, and the like, are consumed by contacting such species, at a temperature of greater than 220.degree. C., with a stoichiometric excess, relative to the halogen content thereof, of at least one alkali metal alcoholate.
