ABSTRACT:
A means for decomposing undesirable by-products formed during the nitration by nitric acid only of N--C.sub.1 to C.sub.8 alkyl phthalimides which comprises elevating the temperature of the reaction mix during or following nitration and an improved nitration process incorporating said means.
