ABSTRACT:
This invention relates to the discovery and isolation of the smallest biologically active polysaccharide which will interact with the .beta.-glucan receptors present on mammalian phagocytic cells. The invention additionally relates to methods of preparing this heptaglucoside, and uses of the molecule as an immunomodulator and an activating agent. The invention additionally relates to methods of separating biologically active polysaccharides from similar inactive forms, and improved methods of separating low molecular weight polysaccharides and isomers from one another.
