ABSTRACT:
A device for use as a hot or cold dental compress comprising a flexible, thermally non-conductive mouthpiece insertable in the upper or lower oral cavity is disclosed. One or more thermal bags comprising a temperature storage medium enclosed in flexible sealed envelopes are secured to the interior and/or exterior surfaces of the mouthpiece. The temperature storage medium comprises a non-toxic substance which maintains its gel-like consistency over a wide range of temperature. The thermal bags are heated or cooled and the compress used to treat affected areas of the mouth, cheeks, palate, gums or tongue. A method of treating affected areas of the oral cavity of a patient is also disclosed.
