A plurality of longitudinally spaced, ribbon-shredding teeth are mounted on the inner surface of one of a pair of jaw members for engaging the ribbon in the closed position of the jaw members and slitting it into shreds having a width determined by the spacing of the teeth. The teeth preferably are provided with an interchangeable slide and guide combination enabling the operator to mount in the slitter a selected slide having thereon a plurality of slitting teeth arranged in a pattern predetermined to yield shreds of a desired width.
