ABSTRACT:
Damage caused to a structural composite material is detected while reduction in the strength thereof is prevented. A damage detection system10for a structural composite material includes a vibration application apparatus20including: a sheet body22; a plurality of piezo elements21sprinkled throughout and held by the sheet body22; and wires23for the piezo elements21provided to the sheet body22. The damage detection system10also includes: a fiber optic sensor30which includes a grating portion33in a core portion32thereof, the grating portion33reflecting light of a predetermined wavelength; a light source to perform light irradiation onto the core portion32; and a characteristic detection unit42to detect a characteristic of the light reflected from the grating portion33.
