ABSTRACT:
The present invention relates to a method of treating pain in a subject having a NMDA recptor which includes administering d-methadone, d-methadol, d-alpha-acetylmethadol, l-alpha-acetylmethadol, d-alpha-normethadol, l-alpha-normethadol, pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof, or mixtures thereof, to the subject under conditions effective for the substance to bind to the NMDA receptor of the subject. The present invention further relates to a method of treating tolerance and physical dependence in a subject and a method of binding to a NMDA receptor.
