ABSTRACT:
A novel liquid crystal compound useful as a component of liquid crystal compositions, and particularly suitable to improvement in low temperature characteristics, and a liquid crystal composition containing the compound are provided, which compound is a 2-alkyl-5-[trans-4-(trans-4-alkylcyclohexyl)cyclohexyl]fluorobenzene expressed by the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 each represent an alkyl group of 2 to 10 carbon atoms.
