ABSTRACT:
This deals with a process for making furanones having the formula: ##STR1## wherein R represents a hydrogen atom or the methyl or ethyl group. These furanones are known flavoring substances.
The furanones I are made by cleaving cyanohydrin from the following novel compounds: ##STR2## The novel compounds II are made by oxidizing the novel compounds: ##STR3##
