ABSTRACT:
A cutting method using a vibratory cutting tool enables efficient creation of chips by breaking or separating of chips, and can retard both a deterioration of machined surface roughness of a workpiece and an increase in cutting resistance. The vibration of the cutting tool is controlled so that the following expressions are satisfied when letting a period of rotation of a workpiece be T, a period of vibration of the cutting tool be t.sub.total, the time required for the cutting edge to move from a farthest position in the feed direction to a farthest position in the direction opposite to the feed direction be t.sub.d, and the time required for moving from the farthest position in the direction opposite to the feed direction to a next farthest position in the feed direction be t.sub.u in the period of vibration of the cutting edge: T.apprxeq.t.sub.total .times.n+t.sub.d, where n is 0 or a positive integer; and t.sub.d .noteq.t.sub.u.
