ABSTRACT:
A current measuring apparatus comprises a current detection unit10and a photoelectric converter20. The current detection unit10comprises an optical fiber sensor11extended or looped around a conductor30. A reflective film12is attached to one end of the sensor11so that light can be reflected by the end of the sensor. The current detection unit10further comprises a first Faraday element13, a light-transmitting birefringent member14, a first optical fiber15, a second optical fiber16and a lens17. The Faraday element13rotates a plane of polarization of the incident light through about 22.5°. The birefringent member14functions to separate the light emitted from the sensor11into an ordinary ray L1and an extraordinary ray L2that are orthogonal to each other, and to transmit linearly polarized light L0emitted from a light source. The lens17is provided between the element13and the birefringent member14. Focal points of the lens are formed at core portions of an input end11aof the sensor11and an end face15aof the first optical fiber15. With this arrangement, the number of components is reduced and the apparatus is reduced in size.
