ABSTRACT:
The present invention relates to an F.sub.1 hybrid melon characterized by having a sour taste, produced by crossing a melon having at least one dominant allele for expression of weak-acid pH value in flesh and at least one recessive allele for expression of mealy character in flesh and a cultivated melon having at least one recessive allele for expression of neutral pH value in flesh and at least one dominant allele for expression of juicy character in flesh as well as to a process for the production thereof. According to the present invention, there is provided a novel melon with both sour and sweet tastes.
