The invention relates to linear, thermotropic crosslinkable polymers, which comprises (A) polycondensing a complex dicarboxylic dichloride having the formula ##STR1## wherein Ar.sub.1 is ##STR2## Ar.sub.2 is ##STR3## Y is H, F, Cl, CN, phenyl, C.sub.n H.sub.2n+1, or OC.sub.n H.sub.2n+1, q is a cardinal number between 1 and 2, and
