A novel crosslinkable compound of the formula (I): ##STR1## and an optical material prepared by employing such a crosslinkable compound, which is excellent in hydrophilicity, transparency, ultraviolet light absorbing property, deposit resistance and boiling resistance and yet has proper hardness and oxygen permeability.
