ABSTRACT:
A cranshaft including a continuous first or main journal and at least one eccentric second journal is disclosed. A corresponding connecting structure includes a pair of channels for receiving the journals. When the connecting structure is driven in a reciprocating fashion, it causes the crankshaft to rotate, or vice versa. A separate connecting structure may be associated with the continuous main journal and each eccentric journal forming part of the crankshaft. The connecting structure may include a single piston, or a pair of pistons in an opposed relationship, each corresponding to a different cylinder in an internal combustion engine. Alternatively, the connecting structure may include a tool, such as a saw blade, and cause it to reciprocate upon rotation of the crankshaft.
