ABSTRACT:
A cosmetic composition contains a polycondensate having units of the formula ##STR1## wherein t is 0 or 1. When t=1, R.sub.1 and R'.sub.1 each independently represent linear or branched alkylene having 1-38 carbon atoms optionally interrupted by --CONH-- or --CO--; alkenyl or alkynyl having 2-18 carbon atoms; cycloalkylene having 5-6 carbon atoms; arylene or bis-arylene optionally substituted by alkyl or alkoxy; or a divalent radical of the formula, --CHR'--O--C.sub.2 H.sub.3 (R')--O].sub.n HCR'-- wherein n is 0-20 and R' represents hydrogen or methyl, and R.sub.2, R'.sub.2, R.sub.3 and R'.sub.3 each independently represent --COOR.sub.4, --CN, --CONH.sub.2 or --COCH.sub.3, wherein R.sub.4 represents hydrogen, linear or branched alkyl having 1-18 carbon atoms or cycloalkyl having 5-6 carbon atoms.
