ABSTRACT:
A cooling chamber10for a microtome1is disclosed. A knife2having a cutting edge16is arranged in the cooling chamber10opposite a sample holder4having a sample4aretained therein. The microtome1further possesses a stereomicroscope12having an optical system14, the optical system14defining an optical axis11. The region of the sample4aand of the cutting edge16of the knife2is observable with the stereomicroscope12. There is mounted in the cooling chamber10an illumination system20that emits light20aand is directed onto a surface2aof the knife2in such a way that the light20areflects from the surface2aparallel to the optical axis11.
