ABSTRACT:
An AC to DC converter is controlled so that its output DC is substantially ripple free and so that its input AC has substantially unity power factor. The AC to DC converter is controlled in response to the voltage and current of the input AC so that the power factor of the input AC is substantially unity. The AC to DC converter is also controlled in response to the output DC so that ripple in the output DC is suppressed. An error between the output DC and a DC reference may be integrated in a low gain path during substantially steady state conditions and in a high gain path during transient conditions so as to suppress ripple in the output DC.
