A control device5for an automatic transmission apparatus2has an automatic gearshift mode in which the gear of the automatic transmission2is automatically controlled by setting the shift position of a shift device3in one of forward travel positions including a first and a second forward position. The control device5also has a manual gearshift mode changing the gear one step by one step by an operating unit4other than the shift device3while maintaining the shift position set in the forward position33. The manual gearshift mode includes a first manual mode when the shift position of the shift device3is set in a first forward position, and a second manual mode when the shift position is set in a second forward position. A control pattern of the first manual mode differs from that in the second manual mode.
