ABSTRACT:
A contrast amplifier for video images comprises means for computing a mean value M.sub.g of luminance of all the points of a field, means consisting of a horizontal filter and a vertical filter for computing a local mean value M.sub.v of luminance in the vicinity of a point being processed and means for multiplying the value of luminance of the point during processing by a variable coefficient which is proportional to the ratio M.sub.v /M.sub.g.
