ABSTRACT:
An adaptor20temporarily transforms a valved urinary catheter2into one that permits continuous fluid flow by deforming the valve3. The adaptor20includes a tube22that sealingly engages into the catheter outlet tube4and is provided with an actuator member24extending therefrom that engages the catheter valve3. The actuator member24is sized to allow urine to flow therearound and into the tube22, when the member24extends into engagement with the valve to deformably open same. However, the actuator member24is of a smaller diameter than the tube22, and therefore does not greatly deform the valve3thereby avoiding damage to the valve3. The adaptor20additionally includes a releasable clip30, 32that augments the frictional fit between the outlet tube4of the catheter2and the adaptor20. The clip30, 32can also be sized to interact with a portion of the catheter2or the valve housing5to ensure the adaptor20is inserted an appropriate distance into the catheter2.
