An axial flow pump includes multiple axially extending friction drag impellers formed of multiple nestled smooth continuous surface shells having a generally truncated spheroid configuration defining a plurality of axially extending elongated annular channels between the blades that induce fluid flow by means of frictional drag on the fluid.
