An optically transparent hydrogen forming material comprising a copolymer of an optically transparent polyester having a molecular weight of 1,000 to 100,000 and at least one of polymerizable group in its molecule and N-vinyllactam. The hydrogel forming material has an excellent optical property, high gas-permeability and excellent mechanical property.
