ABSTRACT:
A cable retention system is provided to connect a PC card, for example a PCMCIA card, to a cable. The cable portion includes an electrical connector on a cable that is overmolded with a backshell. The backshell incorporates captivated thumbscrews that can be at least partially withdrawn into the backshell. The thumbscrews may engage threads in the PC card to provide a secure attachment, or the thumbscrews may be withdrawn into the backshell, so that the electrical connector on the cable may be pushed onto the mating electrical connector on the PC card. In another embodiment, an electronic device, such as a wireless or ROM module, is attached to the PC card.
