The present invention provides new amyloidogenesis inhibiting compounds of formula (I):in whichR1is a —NRaRbgroup, where Raand Rb, independently, are a hydrogen atom or a C1-C6alkyl group; —ORCgroup, where RCis a hydrogen atom or a C1-C6alkyl group; a glycosyl; a C1-C6polyhydroxyalkyl; or a —NH—CH(Rd)—COORegroup, where Rdis a side chain of one of the 20 natural alpha-amino acids in either of their two enantiomerically pure forms L or D, and Reis a hydrogen atom or a C1-C6alkyl group; andR2is a hydrogen atom, a C1-C6alkyl group, a glycosyl; a C1-C6polyhydroxyalkyl; —C(═O)—Rfgroup, where Rfis a C1-C6alkyl group; or a —CH2—COO—Rggroup, where Rgis a hydrogen atom or a C1-C6alkyl group;and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof, which are useful in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases, among others.
