A composition including one or more of elecampane rhizome (Inulasp.), fennel fruit (Foeniculumsp.), juniper berry (Juniperussp.), licorice root (Glycyrrhizasp.), oregano herb (Oreganumsp.), marigold flowers (Calendulasp.), rose hips (Rosasp.), and thyme (Thymussp.), or an extract thereof. The composition is useful for treating infectious diseases, for example viral and microbial infections, and for reducing the toxic effects of chemotherapeutic agents.
