ABSTRACT:
A composite strip10windable to form a helical pipe is disclosed. The composite strip10comprises: an elongate plastic strip11having a base portion12and at least one lengthwise extending rib portion20upstanding from the base portion12;and an elongate reinforcing strip30extending lengthwise and supported laterally by the rib portion20,the reinforcing strip30having a height to thickness ratio of at least three to one and orientated substantially perpendicular to the base portion12.When wound into a helical pipe, the reinforcing strip30reinforces the pipe against radial crushing loads. A bead40seals the reinforcing strip30from the environment. Desirably the composite strip10further comprises: a planar lamina50extending lengthwise and bonded to the base portion12,the lamina50having a higher Young's modulus and strength than those of the plastic strip11.The lamina50greatly improves the pressure rating of a pipe wound from the strip10.
