ABSTRACT:
The invention encompasses the combination of two printing technologies into a single web fed printing press10, particularly the combination of flexographic and intaglio printing. The present web fed printing press10comprises at least one flexographic printing module14equipped to apply variable amounts of motion and tension to a web of sheet material11; at least one intaglio printing module17equipped to apply variable amounts of motion and tension to the web of sheet material11; and means for controlling the amounts of motion and tension applied by the flexographic printing module or modules14and by the intaglio printing module or modules17to the web of sheet material11. Preferably, the means for controlling the amounts of motion and tension applied to the web of sheet material11comprises a host processor40and first and second motion control processors44, 45.
