ABSTRACT:
A fixing device having a heating roller and a pressure roller each of which has an elastic layer provided thereon and which touch each other to form a nip. The elastic layer of the heating roller is thinner than that of the pressure roller, and/or the surface effective hardness of the heating roller is 85.degree. or less and that of the pressure roller 85.degree. or greater. The nip is substantially flat. The portion of a recording member exiting the nip proceeds along a path substantially away from the heating roller.
