A color filter comprising a substrate, a red pixel, green pixel and blue pixel, each being disposed on the substrate, wherein a perpendicular optical retardation RRthof the red pixel, a perpendicular optical retardation GRthof the green pixel, and a perpendicular optical retardation BRthof the blue pixel satisfy the following formulas (1) and (2):in-line-formulae description="In-line Formulae" end="lead"?|(RRth−BRth)|−|(GRth−BRth)|≧0  (1)in-line-formulae description="In-line Formulae" end="tail"?in-line-formulae description="In-line Formulae" end="lead"?|(RRth−BRth)|−|(RRth−GRth)|≧0  (2)in-line-formulae description="In-line Formulae" end="tail"?wherein RRth, GRthand BRthrepresent, respectively, a product of a thickness [nm] of a pixel and a value obtained by subtracting a value of thickness-wise refractive index from an average value of an in-plane refractive index of each of these pixels.
