ABSTRACT:
A hydrotreated petroleum residuum is coked in the presence of coal to improve the yield and quality of the liquid coker products. The coal is preferably of low rank with a carbon content below 75 weight percent with best results being obtained with sub-butuminous coals. The coke product may also be of improved purity, especially with respect to sulfur and metal (especially Ni, V) content.
