ABSTRACT:
Nitrile barrier resin latexes containing a coalescing agent which (1) is a solvent for the nitrile barrier resin, (2) has a boiling point between 100.degree. and 300.degree. C., and (3) does not azeotrope with water are excellent oxygen barriers and have good chemical resistance when coated on various substrates. Especially effective coalescing agents are selected from the group consisting of dimethyl formamide, dimethyl acetimide, methyl pyrrolidone, dimethyl sulfoxide, glycol carbonate and tetramethylene sulfone.
