ABSTRACT:
Secondary alkyl-substituted benzene hydroperoxides are cleaved to phenols and ketones by contacting the hydroperoxide with a mixture consisting essentially of an organic phosphonium halide compound and an acid at a temperature from about 0.degree.-200.degree. C.
