ABSTRACT:
A clamping device2is provided with a hydraulic cylinder7for biasing a collet member5upward via a collet supporting member6and driving a pull rod4downward. A piston member30has a greater pressure receiving area than the collet supporting member6in the circular hydraulic chamber31of the hydraulic cylinder7. Therefore, the hydraulic cylinder7can drive the pull rod4downward while the collet member5is biased upward. Meanwhile, the collet5aof the collet member5is resiliently deformed in a diametrically expanding manner to engage in the vertical bore1bof a workpiece1while slightly moving downward, ensuring a secure locking of the workpiece1to a workpiece receiving surface3a.
