ABSTRACT:
A chuck for use with a manual or powered driver including a nut rotatably mounted on the chuck body and in engagement with the threads of the chuck jaws. Aspects of the chuck Jaws, such as the jaw face, are manipulatively formed by selective redistribution of metal. Formation of the chuck jaws in this manner is distinguishable from jaws formed by prior art machining techniques due to the structural orientation of grain in the metal. Forming of the chuck jaws preferably occurs at low applied temperature, i.e. not exceeding 1000 degrees Fahrenheit.
