ABSTRACT:
A chitosan or chitin compound having a photographically useful residue. There is also disclosed a method for processing a silver halide photographic material which comprises processing a silver halide photographic material comprising a support having thereon at least one light-sensitive silver halide emulsion layer in the presence of said chitosan or chitin compound represented by the following general formula (I) ##STR1## wherein the substituents are defined in the instant specification.
