ABSTRACT:
A chip resistor includes an insulating substrate2in the form of a chip having an upper surface and an opposite pair of side surfaces, a resistor film4formed on the upper surface of the insulating substrate2, a pair of upper electrodes5formed on the upper surface of the insulating substrate2to flank the resistor film4in electrical connection thereto, a cover coat6covering the resistor film4, an auxiliary upper electrode7formed on each of the upper electrodes5and including a first portion7aadjoining the relevant side surface of the insulating substrate2and a second portion7boverlapping the cover coat6, and a side electrode8formed on each of the side surfaces of the insulating substrate2and electrically connected to at least the upper electrode5and the auxiliary upper electrode7. The first portion7aof the auxiliary upper electrode7has an obverse surface positioned higher than an obverse surface of the second portion7bfor projecting above an obverse surface of the cover coat6.
