ABSTRACT:
A machine for automatically removing a block of cheese from a container having an open top by inverting the container and pulling the cheese through the inverted open top by retractable suction cups. The cheese containers are vertically stacked on a hydraulic lift which raises the containers to an elevated position where the topmost container is gripped by a plurality of pressure actuated clamps. The clamps are mounted on a horizontal frame which is pivoted through a 180.degree. vertical arc to invert the clamped container so that the heretofore open top becomes an open bottom. A plurality of suction cups are mounted on a vertically movable conveyor which is located beneath the container when the container is in the inverted position. The conveyor and suction cups are raised to a position closely adjacent the open bottom of the container by pressure actuated cylinders and the suction cups engage the block of cheese. Retraction of the suction cups pulls the cheese from the container and deposits the cheese on the conveyor. The conveyor then is lowered to a position adjacent a transfer conveyor and the cheese is moved onto the transfer conveyor for movement to a subsequent processing station.
