ABSTRACT:
The invention encompasses compounds of the formula: ##STR1## and the pharmaceutically acceptable non-toxic salts thereof wherein n is 0, 1, or 2, X is ##STR2## Z is H.sub.2, oxygen or sulfur, and R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3, R.sub.4, T, W, and Y are defined variables.
These compounds are highly selective agonists or inverse agonists for the GABAa brain receptors and are useful in the diagnosis and treatment of anxiety, sleep, and seizure disorders, overdose with benzodiazepinc type drugs, and enhancement of alertness.
