ABSTRACT:
A centrifugal pump includes a rotating impeller for accelerating low pressure inlet fluid to a substantially tangential high pressure fluid. A pair of floating rotatable shrouds flank opposite axial sides of the rotating impeller. Pressurized hydrostatic bearings back the shrouds to float and support the shrouds in a uniform fashion. Pressurization for the hydrostatic bearings can come from the high pressure fluid side of the pump.
