ABSTRACT:
A method for forming a cell and a cell for an electric double layer capacitor includes a membrane formed from a solid protronic conducting electrolyte separating two electrodes. Each electrode is a composite electrode formed by a mixture of at least one electronic conductor and a solid electrolyte. Preferably, the solid electrolyte of the composite electrodes and the membrane is chosen from a group consisting of uranyl phosphate H.sub.3 O UO.sub.2 PO.sub.4 3H.sub.2), zirconium phosphate Zr(HPO.sub.4).sub.2 nH.sub.2 O, or derivatives of these compounds.
