Cationic dyes for paper having the formula: ##STR1## wherein R is selected from hydrogen and methyl, X is selected from 0 and NH, n is 2 or 3, and Y.sup.- is an anion selected from halide and methosulfate, have improved storage stability in aqueous acid solutions.
