ABSTRACT:
There is disclosed a process for the preparation of butenes from propylene using a catalyst comprising from 1 to 15 percent by weight of vanadium oxide -- V.sub.2 O.sub.5 and from 0.1 to 5 percent by weight of tungsten oxide -- WO.sub.3 impregnated on a support which has a surface area of 10 to 400 square meters per gram which catalyst has been activated by contact with from 0.1 to 10 moles of a trialkylaluminum compound per mole of V.sub.2 O.sub.5.
