ABSTRACT:
A process is disclosed for producing CF.sub.3 CH.sub.2 F from CF.sub.3 CHClF by catalytic chlorination of CF.sub.3 CHClF to CF.sub.3 CCl.sub.2 F at elevated temperature, and reaction of CF.sub.3 CCl.sub.2 F with H.sub.2 in the presence of a carbon-supported precious metal catalyst at a temperature of from about 100.degree. C. to 250.degree. C. Suitable catalysts for the chlorination include carbon catalysts and catalysts wherein halides of certain metals (La, Zn, Cu, Cr, Ru, Rh, and/or Pt) are supported on carbon.
