A process for producing a producing a product of the formula:in-line-formulae description="In-line Formulae" end="lead"?R—CF═CHR1in-line-formulae description="In-line Formulae" end="tail"?wherein R is F or CF3and R1is F when R is F and is H when R is CF3by reacting a reactant of the formula:in-line-formulae description="In-line Formulae" end="lead"?CF3—R2in-line-formulae description="In-line Formulae" end="tail"?wherein R2is selected fromandwherein R3is H, F or Cl and R4is H or Cl,in the presence of a suitable catalyst, with a reducing agent selected from methane, methyl chloride and mixtures thereof, in a gas phase reaction.
